A Minneapolis blogger, commenting on the abnormally cool weather there, pleads for global warming to return.
Today, walking down the street in downtown Minneapolis at 5:30, en route from my office to my parking ramp, I saw something I've never seen before: a man wearing a winter coat in July. Well, maybe not quite a winter coat, but definitely a fall/winter semi-parka with an unzipped, faux-fur lined hood. He was carrying a briefcase and looked like a businessman who was tired of being cold every time he went outdoors. In the summer. Here in Tennessee, the low last night was about 54 where I live; we slept with the windows open and the AC off. NO AC today, either, since the high is forecast for only 75. It has a long way to go as I type this at 11:15 a.m. - and this is July, heretofore an insufferably hot, humid month.
I personally don't think that we (all of humankind, let alone we Americans) can control the weather, but for those who do think we possess that Godlike power, here's a request: can we turn the thermostat up a little?
But we can still blame it on global warming, right? Well, no, since that hasn't been happening since 1998. So let's blame it on climate change - yeah, that's it, climate change!

On the other hand, it's hot in Fairbanks, Alaska.
On the other other hand--According to the MSN weather page, the average July temperatures in Fairbanks, Alaska, are: High, 72; Low, 52. The record high was 94 in 1975. The record low was 29 in 1934. So, the weather in Fairbanks right now is nothing out of the ordinary.
It was hot last week. We had close to record temperatures in the high 80F's and low 90F's, along with some wildland fires that smoked up the state. They're still burning.
The Tanana River, a glacier fed river which rises during hot weather (as opposed to a stream fed river which rises during heavy rain) is still quite high, and there have even been flood watches issued. It's still expected to rise, peaking in a day or two.
Forecast today? It's expected to be 80F. That's usually pretty hot for us.
