Syria roundup

She also links to the text of the letter Speaker Boehner sent the president about Syria, which includes this choice nugget:

... it is essential that you provide a clear, unambiguous explanation of how military action – which is a means, not a policy – will secure U.S. objectives and how it fits into your overall policy.
That is a level of concision that I frankly didn't think Boehner had in him: military action is a means to achieve policy, it is not itself policy.

Nothing Obama has said indicates that he understands that here. Firing a "shot across the bow" of Assad, as the president told PBS, is not policy. It is a spasm: "Don't just stand there! Bomb something!"
