If this proves successful, and I think it will, then Walmart and Kroger, et. al., will have to adopt.
No checkout registers, no lines, you just take your items off the shelves, drop them into your bag and walk out the door. Amazon automatically charges your Amazon account for the purchases.
I have to wonder, though, how well this can be scaled to full supermarkets and will it work the day before Thanksgiving, say, when the store is very crowded and three people are putting different quantities of the same item in their bags.
OTOH, The Inquirer says that shoppers surrender their privacy. The store "will make you feel like a shoplifter but will actually be tracking your every move."
Um, sure. But that bridge got crossed long, long ago. What do they think this thing does?
