Ezekiel Emanuel is a medical doctor and chair of the University of Pennsylvania’s department of
medical ethics and health policy. He was also the chief architect of Obamacare.
He wants you to die.
Specifically, he says that no life-prolonging medical treatments or prescriptions should be given to men or women after age 75: "A doctor and medical ethicist argues life after 75 is not worth living."
These people who live a vigorous life to 70, 80, 90 years of age—when I look at what those people “do,” almost all of it is what I classify as play. It’s not meaningful work. They’re riding motorcycles; they’re hiking. Which can all have value—don’t get me wrong. But if it’s the main thing in your life? Ummm, that’s not probably a meaningful life.
Like all Leftists, he thinks he has the authority and ability to determine what "meaning" is for your life. You might stupidly think that enjoying your grandchildren and teaching them the lessons you have learned is living meaningfully for a 76-year-old. But whence comes your authority to determine the meaning of your own life? Do you think you should decide that? Get a clue: Leftists never stop short of anything other than total control over their subordinates. And we are all their subordinates.Karl Marx wrote in Critique of the Gotha Program that communist societies would run according to the rule, "From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs." Don't think for a minute that you get to determine what your needs are - the Leftist political class will tell you that. They also get to determine their own needs. And you'd better believe that their needs are always far greater than yours.
So when Emanuel says in the linked interview that when people turn 75 or older, then their “consumption" is not worth their "contribution,” Marx would nod approvingly. Once society no longer receives from someone, it no longer gives to them.
But why should mere age be the standard? What about homeless people? Severely handicapped? Autistic? Down's Syndrome?
Trust me - the list of people who can be deemed living un-meaningful lives will never be exhausted.
I first discovered that people with disabilities were sterilized and killed by the Nazis when I was a teenager, watching the TV mini-series “Holocaust” in 1978. But it would be years before I understood the connections between the killing of the disabled and the killing of Jews and other “undesirables,” all of whom were, in one way or another, deemed “unfit.”
The [German] neurologist [to whom Fries is explaining his research] does not know much about what I’m telling him. While he does know that approximately 300,000 disabled people were killed in T4 and its aftermath, he doesn’t know about the direct connection between T4 and the Holocaust. He doesn’t know that it was at Brandenburg, the first T4 site, where methods of mass killing were tested, that the first victims of Nazi mass killings were the disabled, and that its personnel went on to establish and run the extermination camps at Treblinka, Belzec and Sobibor. ...
The detail of how it happened, and particularly the role of doctors in the process, is not at all well known.
What ended in the 1940s in the gas chambers of Auschwitz, Dachau, and Treblinka had much more humble beginnings in the 1930s in nursing homes, geriatric hospitals and psychiatric institutions all over Germany.
When the Nazis arrived, the medical profession was ready and waiting.
