"Whiskey-voiced"?

By Donald Sensing

TimesOnline pontificates about the sleep-inducing health care summit on TV yesterday and includes this:

The President’s first challenger of the morning was the Republican charmer Lamar Alexander, a whiskey-voiced Senator from Tennessee. “We want you to succeed, because if you succeed, our country succeeds,” he told Obama, before adding, a few moments later, that want he really wanted, more than anything, was for the President to fail.
"Whiskey-voiced"? What on earth does that mean? Like Lamar, I am a Tennessean - in fact, his house in Nashville is only about 250 yards from the house I grew up in and where my parents lived until last April. Here's Lamar's statement. Is this the voice or demeanor of a man who's crawled inside a whiskey bottle?

Give me a break.

But too bad the Times didn't seem to notice Obama's death stare. I think he has the index and well as the middle finger extended, but it's hard to say. Hew does have sort of a record on this kind of thing.

And while we're at it, Stephen Green liveblogged the summit and provides the best line of all commentators: "8:44AM Harry Reid is telling a sob story. Which is eerily like Dr. Seuss writing erotica." There goes my coffee . . .
