And who else would?

By Donald Sensing

A NY Times blog reports on an academic study done relating to church attendance. The blogger writes this blinding glimpse of the obvious:

The study specifically focused on the behavior of Catholics and Protestants because they were most likely to attend church on Sundays.
Imagine that! How about this: The study specifically focused on the behavior of Catholics and Protestants because they were most likely to attend church at all.

This is for you, Roman

Headline: Swiss Reject Polanski Appeal Over Arrest.

ZURICH (Reuters) - Swiss authorities rejected an appeal on Tuesday to release from jail Roman Polanski, the film director arrested last month after fleeing the United States in 1978 to avoid sentencing in an underage sex case.

Authorities also urged a Swiss court dealing with his extradition warrant to reject another appeal by Polanski's lawyers to have him freed and to refuse any request to release the 76-year-old Oscar-winning film director on bail.

Polanski pleaded guilty to having sex with a 13-year-old girl in 1977 and spent 42 days in prison undergoing psychiatric tests. When released he left the country because he believed a judge would sentence him to up to 50 years behind bars despite a plea agreement for time already served.

"In our view, there is still a very high risk that he will flee and that a release on bail or other measures after a release cannot guarantee Polanski's presence in the extradition procedure," Federal Office of Justice spokesman Folco Galli said.
That last statement is what is known as a Blinding Glimpse of the Obvious.

Gee, yuh think?

By Donald Sensing

Steve Chapman on the administration's plans to take over health care:

Some statements are inherently unbelievable. Such as: "I am an official of the government of Nigeria, and I would like to deposit $60 million in your bank account." Or: "I'm Barry Bonds, and I thought it was flaxseed oil." And this new one: "I'm Barack Obama, and I favor more competition in health insurance." ...

There are reasons, though, to think that the president's real enthusiasm is not for competition but for government expansion.
That's what we call a BGOO - a Blinging Glimpse Of the Obvious.

Somehow, Steve concludes, no matter the problem, "the administration proposes the same solution: more federal spending and a bigger federal role."

When all you have is a hammer, etc.

A blinding glimpse of the obvious

By Donald Sensing

John Stephenson:

Banning the free exchange of ideas just because they are insensitive, politically incorrect or unpopular is a leap down a path toward destroying the very spirit and ideals behind individual freedom and responsibility.
Which is, John, exactly the point of the people who push for and pass such laws.
