Wokeness is in fact a religion

By Donald Sensing

Katherine Kersten of the StarTribune explains why Woke is the new Puritanism.

What is unfolding before our eyes is a new secular religion. For all its claims of “inclusivity,” this new faith is deeply intolerant. It has roots in the American past that would likely surprise its adherents: the Puritan era of our nation’s earliest religious zealots. Progressives are now engaged in doing theology without God. “ Woke is the new Saved,” in the words of commentator John Zmirak.

Parallels abound. One of Puritan theology’s core tenets is “innate depravity” — the doctrine that humans are inherently wicked as a result of original sin. The woke faith preaches an updated version: America’s original sin is white supremacy.

Fertility rate: 'Jaw-dropping' global crash in children being born

Why is this a problem? You might think this is great for the environment. A smaller population would reduce carbon emissions as well as deforestation for farmland.

"That would be true except for the inverted age structure (more old people than young people) and all the uniformly negative consequences of an inverted age structure," says Prof Murray.

The study projects:
  • The number of under-fives will fall from 681 million in 2017 to 401 million in 2100.
  • The number of over 80-year-olds will soar from 141 million in 2017 to 866 million in 2100.
Prof Murray adds: "It will create enormous social change. It makes me worried because I have an eight-year-old daughter and I wonder what the world will be like."

Who pays tax in a massively aged world? Who pays for healthcare for the elderly? Who looks after the elderly? Will people still be able to retire from work?

"We need a soft landing," argues Prof Murray. ...

Prof Ibrahim Abubakar, University College London (UCL), said: "If these predictions are even half accurate, migration will become a necessity for all nations and not an option.
"To be successful we need a fundamental rethink of global politics.
"The distribution of working-age populations will be crucial to whether humanity prospers or withers."

Twenty Years A Fool: My Long Journey Home From The Left
Elizabeth Nickson’s story has all the makings of a Hollywood bio pic: A Westmount exile, who rebels against power and privilege, becomes a globe-trotting leftist journalist chronicling the great revolutionary narratives of her time. Then she sets out to discover the awful truth about her patriarchal 400-year-old colonist clan and everything changes. But Hollywood won’t touch her script because what she finds are eternal truths, about love, charity, sacrifice, Christianity and genuine freedom. ...
"The first thing I discovered was that they were Christian. And I mean very, very Christian. This was unnerving since on the intellectual left, faith in God, and particularly Christ, signifies a weak mind. But these people were anything but weak."

That is no exaggeration.

Why Rioters Will Eventually Turn Their Rage On Christianity If Not Stopped
The outrage over statues and the 'white' depictions of Christ is meant to detract us from the real endgame: the 'canceling' of Christianity itself.
The dream of Marxism is to eradicate Western civilization and replace it with itself; its reaction to the legitimate evils that have been committed by Occidentals is not reform but obliteration.

Marxism assumes that because the windows are dirty and cracked, the entire house must be demolished. We see this same hatred today in the insurrections occurring right now. There is no reason for mobs pulling down statues of Ulysses S. Grant or Hans Christian Heg or calling for statues of Abraham Lincoln as the Great Emancipator to be removed.

But if Western Civilization is evil, that means all the elements that went into creating Western Civilization must also be destroyed. That includes Christianity.

Democrats, The Party Of Science (Fiction)
A record going back decades.

Has America 2020 become like Germany's Weimar Republic?
Yet there are some disturbing parallels, or at least echoes, of what happened during the Weimar years. First, the very emergence (or re-emergence) in the US of ideologically inspired rioting, looting, and street violence. Second, the fact that at least some of the violent factions – like Antifa – appear to be systematically organised and funded, with fairly sophisticated recruitment, training, and communications capabilities. Third, there is the truly disturbing fact that violence seems to winked at – if not actively encouraged – by sympathetic office-holders and by the ever-more-politically-one-sided media, in thrall to the political Left.

(In Weimar Germany, too, the political armies represented the political parties, and they were protected by office-holders – and also by the courts – which were sympathetic to them. In the Weimar Republic, it was especially right-wing governments and judges who winked at right-wing or Nazi violence. Hitler, for example, was liable for severe punishment, or even the death penalty, for the Beer Hall Putsch – his attempted coup by armed force in Bavaria in 1923. Instead, after a trial by sympathetic judges, he served less than nine months “fortress confinement” in Landsberg Prison, where he  was accommodated comfortably and free to write, or rather to dictate, Mein Kampf.)
Politically-inspired rioting, looting, arson; bitter racial and ethnic grievances and divisions; deepening ideological antipathies. Colleges and universities that foster one-sided extemism. (The Nazis were especially strong in the Weimar-era universities.) Public officials and media who minimise or cover for violence – creating an atmosphere of impunity for one side in the political struggle. None of these are healthy symptoms.

History – thankfully – may not repeat itself. It’s worrisome though, or at least rather creepy, when it begins to rhyme.

George Wallace approves this message!

By Donald Sensing

I posted a few days ago the question, "Why is Wokeness so white supremacist?" in which I observed,

It is amazing to me how today so many white race-justice warriors keep proclaiming wokeness stuff that simply echoes what bona fide white supremacists of the 1960s would have been proud to say.
And so today, let the parodies begin! For as the subjects of the Soviet Union found out, humor was a wonderful weapon to use to undermine the regime.

They are not wrong, for according to the National Association of Scholars, of the 173 schools it surveyed, 76 of them, or 44%, were offering black-only graduation ceremonies.
These range from small private schools to big public universities. Some notable ones include Harvard, UC San Diego, UC Irvine, Arizona State University, Stanford, UC Berkeley, UCLA, and Yale.
I made this meme some time ago as a parody. Now when considering the latest "Woke" demand, it is simply the truth.

This is the American Left today, folks.

Why is Wokeness so white supremacist?

By Donald Sensing

When you have lost NYMag: Is the Anti-Racism Training Industry Just Peddling White Supremacy?  About the ...

... anti-racism training industry, whose most famous theorist and practitioner is Robin DiAngelo, whose book White Fragility rocketed to the top of the New York Times best-seller list.

Daniel Bergner has a long profile of DiAngelo and her fellow anti-racism trainers in the New York Times. The story is far more devastating than it might appear at a casual glance. It reveals a business model spreading kooky, harmful, and outright racist ideas. ...
One of DiAngelo’s favorite examples is instructive. She uses the famous story of Jackie Robinson. Rather than say “he broke through the color line,” she instructs people instead to describe him as “Jackie Robinson, the first Black man whites allowed to play major-league baseball.”
It is true, of course, that Robinson was not the first Black man who was good enough at baseball to make a major-league roster. The Brooklyn Dodgers decided, out of a combination of idealism and self-interest, to violate the norm against signing Black players. And Robinson was chosen due to a combination of his skill and extraordinary personality that allowed him to withstand the backlash in store for the first Black major leaguer. It is not an accident that DiAngelo changes the story to eliminate Robinson’s agency and obscure his heroic qualities. It’s the point. Her program treats individual merit as a myth to be debunked. Even a figure as remarkable as Robinson is reduced to a mere pawn of systemic oppression.
The Dehumanizing Condescension of White Fragility The popular book aims to combat racism but talks down to Black people. By John McWhorter, professor at Columbia University

Smithsonian Goes Full Marxist: Nuclear Family, Science, Christianity All Part of Oppressive 'Whiteness'
... the idea that Christianity being the norm is part of “whiteness” ignores the fact that black people are statistically more likely to believe the Christian gospel while white people are statistically more likely to reject the existence of God altogether. I myself belong to a Christian church that looked to Africa for leadership.
My observation:

It is amazing to me how today so many white race-justice warriors keep proclaiming wokeness stuff that simply echoes what bona fide white supremacists of the 1960s would have been proud to say.

So far I have learned that any black who does not vote for Biden is not really black, and that neither is any black married couple with children living at home, especially if their kids have their own bedrooms.

Which is good news, because that means the black family who lives directly across the street from me, and another three doors down, and the Chinese family who lives next door to me, and the Indian (from India) family four doors down, and the Native American family of my church - well, they are actually white!

Whew! For a moment I thought I had to put up with living in an integrated neighborhood! But we are all white, hallelujah!

Because, after all, whiteness is now officially defined as a world view and manner of living, not skin color or ancestry.

July 16: the museum withdrew the display.
The National Museum for African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) has removed its controversial chart on whiteness from one of its webpages, telling people on Thursday that it didn't contribute to a "productive conversation" about racial issues.

"Since yesterday, certain content in the 'Talking About Race' portal has been the subject of questions that we have taken seriously. We have listened to public sentiment and have removed a chart that does not contribute to the productive discussion we had intended," the museum said in a statement.
Gosh, how did that happen?

Here is my woke breaking point

By Donald Sensing

Secularists require an enemy

Mark Tapscott wonders why do, "... secular/humanist movements seem to create enemies, evil oppressors, that must be totally eradicated?"
https://hillfaith.blog/2020/06/23/heres-the-dilemma-humanism-cant-solve-but-christianity-can/

There are two specific groups of people who will always become the target of secularism's ire. First of course are Jews: Holocaust Survivors Memorial Toppled At California Cemetery
https://thewashingtonsentinel.com/holocaust-survivors-memorial-toppled-at-california-cemetery/
A fountain dedicated to Holocaust survivors was toppled into pieces at Santa Rosa Memorial Park, where police are investigating the act of vandalism to determine if it is a hate crime.

As if there is a real question about that . . .

Exhibit two: this happened in Nashville, only a 30-40 minute drive from my home: "Nashville Holocaust Memorial desecrated with antisemitic messages."
https://www.antisemitism.co.il/2020/06/nashville-holocaust-memorial-desecrated.html

The other enemy is Christianity, which cannot be tolerated by atheistic humanism because Christian faith simply contradicts not only that atheistic humanism is correct, but that it is even possibly correct.

And so we have anarchist race warrior Shaun King:

So, did Jesus have a northern European appearance? Of course not. In fact, we do not know what Jesus looked like. Over the centuries since his day, Christians around the world have created art showing a Jesus who looked like them:

There are thousands of similar examples in countries around the world. Are these wrong, also? When Chinese Christians portray Jesus with Asian features, are they guilty of Chinese supremacism (and that definitely is a thing)? Are African Christians' portrayals of Jesus as an African guilty of cultural or racial appropriation?

Or is it only the whites whose Jesus must be destroyed? To ask the question is to answer it.

Not all mainly-humanists are atheists. But whenever Christians begin to consider other persons, either other Christians or not, mainly as enemies who must be defeated, well, that is when they have in their hearts denounced Christ and have embraced the powers and principalities of the world.

Understand this: "white Jesus" is not the real target at all. It is only a beginning point. Anyone of any race who renounces the call to violence and carries out the commandments of Christ is the real target.

How the Democrats collude to enable voter fraud, at Powerline
https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2020/06/how-the-democrats-collude-to-enable-voter-fraud.php
One of the most pernicious phenomena of modern times is the collusive lawsuit. This is how it works: a left-wing organization sues a government agency that is also controlled by the left. The lawsuit alleges that the agency is obliged to do something that the agency would like to do, but the Democrats can’t get it passed. Then the parties–supposedly adverse, but actually in collusion–“settle” the case by having the agency agree to do what it wanted to do all along. If all goes well, a court enters an order enforcing the settlement. So the net effect is that a policy that the Democrats couldn’t get passed is now a court-ordered mandate. This happens often.
Read the whole thing, but take your blood pressure meds first. It is absolutely in the Dem playbook for November.

https://thecritic.co.uk/the-sanctification-of-george-floyd/
Another example of the relation between sentimentality and brutality has been the use of very young children in demonstrations. There are videos of two girls, nine and seven, one making a speech at a demonstration and the other marching in a demonstration, her pretty little face contorted with hatred, chanting a horrible slogan, ‘No justice, no peace’ (a justification in advance of further looting, or worse), and making aggressive gestures.

Clearly they had been put up to all this by their parents. If they had been born in Nazi Germany, they would have rushed up to the Fuhrer to present him with flowers. And no doubt the parents of the little girls, in the pride of their self-righteousness, will continue to indoctrinate them into becoming mental clones of themselves, in the belief that decerebrate rage and resentment are really a manifestation of generosity of spirit.

The little girls themselves, deeply unattractive as they have been made, are of course not themselves to blame. But what kind of fathomless sentimentalism is it that believes that a cause is justified or strengthened by the use of parroting children of nine and seven? It is not what the children parrot that counts, horrible as it might be, but that the children parrot it, that they have been turned (presumably by their parents) into mere instruments.

What Democrats have done and why

By Donald Sensing

Liberal Cities, Radical Mayhem
Democratic mayors and governors seem unable to stop the destruction of their own cities.

This isn’t merely about damage to property. It’s about destroying the order required for city life. Non-criminals are afraid to go into these cities to make a living. The police pull back from active policing, which creates more opportunity for criminals, especially in poor and minority neighborhoods. Businesses that are finally starting to emerge from government lockdowns have new costs to absorb and more reasons for customers not to return.

What all these cities have in common is that they are led by Democrats who seem to have bought into the belief that the police are a bigger problem than rampant disorder. They are either cowed by their party’s left, or they agree that America is systemically racist and rioting is a justified expression of anger against it. They offer pro forma disapproval of law breakers but refuse to act to stop them.
The Left Couldn't Care Less About Blacks
The left-wing mantra of “America is racist” has little to do with caring for blacks; rather, it is indispensable to bringing America down.

Second, without a lopsided black vote for the left-wing party, the Democrats, no Democrat could get elected to national office. It is therefore imperative to repeat as often and as vociferously as possible how anti-black America is. The angrier a black person is at America, the more likely he or she is to vote Democrat. Some years ago, after talking to listeners of every race on my radio show for decades, I came up with this riddle:

“What do you call a happy black person?”

Answer: “A Republican.”

To the left, blacks are not real people as much as they are an electoral bloc. How else to explain Joe Biden’s recent comment, “If you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black.” The contempt for blacks — from the sentiment that one is “not black” unless one is a Democrat to his use of the word “ain’t” — is obvious to any nonleftist.
Here's the Real Story on George Floyd, Police Abuse, and Racism, and What You Should Do About It
While police abuse is not necessarily a racial problem, it is nonetheless a big problem. Derek Chauvin, the man who killed George Floyd, had a long record of complaints. Gregory McMichael was not immediately arrested. The men who killed Breonna Taylor entered her house in plainclothes without announcing their presence. These facts should make Americans’ blood boil, and they should lead Americans to demand concrete action.

I don’t always agree with former President Barack Obama (okay, I almost never agree with that scandal-plagued president), but I agree with his basic advice on police reform. Obama encouraged activists to develop concrete demands and to focus on achieving change at the local level.

Police unions often protect bad cops who pose a danger to the community. In some cases, police have effective “get out of jail free” cards that they hand out to their family and friends. This institutionalizes an “old boys club” culture.
I did not kill George Floyd
The attempt to hold all whites responsible for the death of Floyd shows what a dead-end woke politics is.
There’s a new sin. Forget gluttony. Forget sloth. The great moral error today is whiteness. To be white is to be fallen. Whiteness has become a kind of original sin, an inherited moral defect one must atone for throughout one’s life. In the wake of the brutal execution of George Floyd by police in Minneapolis, this almost religious treatment of whiteness as an existential flaw has gone uber-mainstream.
We Don't Have a Racism Problem, We Have a Deep State Problem: The Hideous Police Killing of Duncan Lemp
That tiered justice system that black activists talk about is real. The people pulling the strings who revel in all this chaos never pay for their massive crimes. They get away with treason, presidential coup attempts, mishandling of classified documents, child trafficking, insider trading, and even murder (Jeffrey Epstein did not kill himself) while the cattle are thrown into prison for twenty years for petty drug offenses or shot dead in their beds with no explanation. We are not who we should be mad at. We are in the same herd of oppressed and abused livestock. Some of us get abused more regularly than others but we’re still locked up in the same rancid farm. It’s time to act in unison and break out of the prison they’ve built around us.
Read all of each one.

Update: Professor Alex Tabarrok on Police Union Privileges Revisited, read all of it, too. It's not long.

Climate protests are how white people claim victimhood

By Donald Sensing

Because we live now in a victimhood culture ("Help! Help! I'm being oppressed!"), it is a matter of honor and social standing to be identified as a victim of something, somehow. It is simply an essential part of what it means to be woke.

So let's take a look at the recent children's marches against climate change. Notice anything?

These protests are extremely pale. I mean, they make NASCAR look like a melting pot! And some people are noticing:
This is an issue CNN contributor Bakari Sellers raised in an opinion piece last month. He writes: “Climate change should be a definitive issue for Black voters, but it isn’t. That is partly because environmental advocacy groups have not always looked like us, nor have they clarified what solutions mean for our communities. And few have articulated what real environmental justice looks like.”

There is a reason for this. For white progressives, climate change is a unique issue in which racial guilt plays little to no role. Other issues such as police brutality, income inequality, and even women’s rights and access to abortion are steeped in what they perceive as the racist foundation of our country. On these issues, white protesters in the post-Occupy age feel they bear no small amount of collective guilt. But on climate change, for once, they can be the victim, not just the ally.

And man, are they enjoying it. This is the moment for angry, young white people not only to be angry, but to actually be oppressed.
But that's not all. Maybe POCs ("people of color" for you unwoke readers) are not merely uninformed, as Sellers implies. Maybe the rank and file POCs understand that climate activism is racist to its very core (also here).

Climate activism is a white-identity matter and is going to stay that way. Moreover, it is a distinctly white-privilege matter, centered in the upper-economic classes of Europe and America and their universities. Diverse it ain't, and it ain't gonna be.
This is the fight for the young white progressive, who maybe, just maybe, is feeling a little tired of having to take the backseat. On this issue, they get to move back to the front of the bus, lead, and bemoan their own oppression. Ah, to be oppressed, the golden ticket of progressive culture, the chance to shine. The moment when they can focus on themselves and accept the applause and grave approval of the progressive culture. Well, it was bound to happen. And they are truly making the most of it.
Indeed they are.

UpdateNot Woke Enough: Climate Extremists ‘Extinction Rebellion’ Hit For Being Too White, Too Rich
The Guardian published an account by a young minority environmentalist that critiqued the movement for its lack of diversity, but also for its “glorification of arrest,” pointing out that upper-class, educated, white youth can be arrested and jailed and not face long-term consequences, whereas ethnic minorities may end up in jail for the rest of their lives, thanks to inequalities within the criminal justice system.

“The tactics of Extinction Rebellion are designed by and for middle-class, white Britain. Their central rhetoric about a dystopian future fails to cut through for those of us already faced with a nightmarish present, surrounded by poverty and austerity,” Athian Akec wrote, adding that “[t]he tactic of being purposely arrested strikes an uncomfortable note for many people of colour, given the adverse experiences people in my community have had with the police,” and then blames XR for failing to be as intersectional as possible — a key element of modern wokeness.

When I pointed this out, I was told I was racist

By Donald Sensing

Author and commentator Arthur Chrenkoff observes from Australia,

At the heart of the New Catstrophism lies an inconvenient truth: the United States – or Australia – could cut their emissions to zero today (or by 2030) and it would make a negligible difference to the global temperatures.

There are two reasons for that: firstly, the CO2 emissions in the United States, the European Union, Canada and Australia have actually been declining in the past 10-15 years. Secondly, the CO2 emissions throughout the developing world have been skyrocketing. And this is not just in relative terms, which disregard the massively different starting points, but in absolute terms.

Why? Because "China now produces more CO2 than the United States and the European Union put together, the Asia-Pacific region ... emits nearly twice as much CO2 as the United States and the European Union combined. And rising." So:
St Joan of Arc of the Children’s Crusade against Carbon, Greta Thunberg, should be going to Beijing or Bangalore and staging her protests there instead of, or at least in addition to, Sweden or New York. She should be hounding President Xi and Prime Minister Modi about their shameful emissions. She should be leading throngs of Asian kids out of schools for her Friday student strikes. She should be castigating the industries and the consumers of the developing world for destroying the planet and killing humanity in the process. She should be doing all this if she were serious about the global nature of the problem. But I won’t be holding my breath.
I pointed this out on Facebook to a very left-wing friend, whereupon I was almost instantly advised that it was racist of me even to suggest it. After all, I was told, there was no reason for the Chinese or Indians to listen to a white European girl. I am not making that up.

In fact, The U.S. Leads All Countries In Reducing Carbon Emissions.

Updates:

David Harsanyi:
Sixteen-year-old Swedish climate change activist Greta Thunberg lives in the healthiest, wealthiest, safest, and most peaceful era humans have ever known. She is one of the luckiest people ever to have lived.

In a just world, Thunberg would be at the United Nations thanking capitalist countries for bequeathing her this remarkable inheritance. Instead, she, like millions of other indoctrinated kids her age, act as if they live in a uniquely broken world on the precipice of disaster. This is a tragedy.
The problem with Greta Thunberg:
The problem with Greta Thunberg is not that she’s a 16-year-old girl with pigtails.

The problem with Greta Thunberg is not that she’s a school drop out.

The problem with Greta Thunberg is not she’s autistic.

There are hundreds of thousands of other kids around the world with some or all of these features – and none is being criticised for having them.

No, the problem with Greta Thunberg is that no matter how brave or inspirational or articulate or touchingly young and fresh-faced or triumphant-over-mental-adversity she may be, the “facts” she regurgitates on behalf of her controllers are lies, propaganda and fake news – and the cause she represents is downright evil.

Strip away all the fluffy invocations of nature and the plight of future generations and the alleged crisis facing mother earth and what you find underneath is pure totalitarianism.
Tony Heller:
Greta Thunberg lives a charmed life.  She doesn't have to go to school, travels the world, is likely getting very rich, and is being used in one of the most ridiculous attemots at a propaganda coup. In this video I discuss the difference between the reality of her life and the propaganda she has been chosen to spread.

Racism - or racialism?

By Donald Sensing

Democrat political rhetoric today:

U.S. Rep. Ayanna Pressley:
“If you’re not prepared to come to that table and represent that voice, don’t come, because we don’t need any more brown faces that don’t want to be a brown voice. We don’t need black faces that don’t want to be a black voice. We don’t need Muslims that don’t want to be a Muslim voice. We don’t need queers that don’t want to be a queer voice. If you’re worried about being marginalized and stereotyped, please don't even show up because we need you to represent that voice."

Or as law Prof. Glenn Reynolds explains her position: "Your Skin Color Determines Your Legitimate Opinions." You have no right to make up your own mind because Pressley does not want discussion and inquiry. She demands your un-arguing obedience and submission to her ideology. If you are a person of color or a Muslim or a homosexual, when she wants your opinion, she'll give it to you. And you'd better agree, buddy, or there will be consequences when she and the rest of her "Squad" take the reins of power.

What is the difference between racism and racialism? They are usually thought to be interchangeable, but there is a subtle difference. Racism is bigotry against a person or set of persons based simply on their race identity. Racists assume certain behavior of capacities of other races, but also understand that some persons of that race will not exhibit them.

Racialism also depends on categorizing people into racial identity groups, but then demands that persons of a race conduct themselves in accordance with the assumed "human traits and capacities." That's Pressley. You will act and speak in ways that I demand or you will have no place in the future nor will you ever be recognized as a legitimate member of your race or religion or sexual identity.

So basically she just called black Americans who do not agree with her, Oreos.
