Color and Contrast

Unlike the States, when winter comes to Israel, things turn green. Suddenly, the earth is no longer brown. The hills are alive with green.

Here, the nearly full moon is rising just ahead of the earth's shadow over the Lower Galilee.

The Senior Doctor Jackson remarked that when she sees green like, it reminds her of Spring in Vermont. But, Winter in the Galilee is special, too.

It's hard to imagine that about 120 years ago, there was nothing here.

In contrast, the image below is of a country road in the moonlight near Beit Guvrin to the south. This region has a very long history of settlement way back. Ruins and caves lurk behind every tree.

Today, it is lush, leafy.
