Yom HaShoah

By Anonymous

Out of the depths I call You, Lord. Lord, listen to my cry,
Let Your ears be attentive to my supplicative plea. (Psalm 130)

Today, we remember the millions of men, women, and children who in our times were consumed in the black tempest of rage and hatred that eclipsed the light of reason and faith. These people were swept away because they were different--in their religion, in their thought, in their way of life.

And we remember the men and women of valor who took arms against that sea of troubles on foreign shores to pay the full price of freedom with their blood. Their lives were not in vain. Their memories are our living benediction.

To all of them, we offer our thanks and prayer.

You who dwell in the shelter of the Most High,
Abiding in the Shadow of the Almighty,
I say of the Lord, my refuge and stronghold,
My God in whom I trust,
That God will deliver you from the ensnaring net,
From destructive plague.
With God's pinion will God shelter you,
Under God's wings shall you find refuge;
Faith in God shall be your shield and protector.
Fear not the terror of night,
The arrow that flies by day,
The plague that stalks in darkness,
The destruction that ravages at noon.
Though a thousand may fall at your left side,
And ten thousand at your right,
It shall not reach you.
Look but clearly, and you shall see
The retribution against the wicked.

(Psalm 91)

Last night (okay, 2am) off the breakwater at Jaffa. Stormy weather and Sharav conditions prevailed. The entirety of Tel Aviv was shut down for the night. This scene, however, caught the feel of the evening as well as the times.
