The man who fell to earth, literally

By Donald Sensing

I posted about the time I met with the fastest jet pilot ever. Ed Yeilding is a retired SR-71 Blackbird pilot who holds the record for the fastest coast-to-coast flight, 68 minutes from the Pacific to the Atlantic.

Comes now the saga of one Bill Weaver, whose SR-71 disintegrated around him at about 2,000 miles per hour at 78,000 feet, throwing him into space without his ejection seat. He fell almost 15 miles to the ground and was flying again two weeks later. Amazing.
