Get rid of the electoral college!

With Donald Trump trailing Hillary Clinton in popular vote totals, but waaay ahead in electoral college votes, we can expect more calls from the Democrats to abolish the electoral college altogether.

Well, good luck with that.

Of course, the real issue that they have with the EC is not that it exists, but that a state's electoral votes (equal in number to its representation in the US Congress) are all awarded to the winner of the popular vote in that state, even if s/he winds by only a dozen votes out of, say, two million cast.

But that's a state issue, not a Constitutional one. The states have the power to allocate their EVs as they wish. In fact, Maine and Nebraska do not use the winner-take-all allocation. They allocate two EVs to the statewide popular vote winner, and then one each to the vote winner in each Congressional district.
