Former FEC Chairwoman Calls for 'Regulations' of Political Speech on the Internet

The former Federal Election Commission chairwoman Ann M. Ravel says that political speech must be controlled on social media. She presented her remarks in a speech at UC Berkeley, calling for regulations against “fake news.”

Speaking at an event called “Future of Democracy,” Ravel argued the proliferation of “fake news” and political advertising on platforms like Facebook influenced elections. She warned that the lack of disclosure by the creators of these campaigns was becoming a huge problem.

Thank heaven she is a "former."

Notice that for the Left, there is never any answer to any question except, "More government control." And naturally, she didn't address just who gets to decide which news is "fake" and which is real. But you already know the answer to that, based on Orwell's "more equal than others" principle. This is, however, to be expected when, divorced from the transcendent, speech becomes nothing but another way to exercise power.

Update: Well, when you've lost even the BBC: "The rise of left-wing, anti-Trump fake news."

The fact-checking site Snopes told BBC Trending radio that in the past week, for example, they have debunked many more anti-Republican party stories than pro-Republican ones.

One example of an incorrect story is the unflattering, digitally-manipulated image, which suggested that US President Donald Trump had diarrhoea during a recent golf outing.

It's hard to gather definitive data on the political bias in fake news stories, so the evidence for a rise in 'liberal fake news' is essentially anecdotal. But a recent study did effectively debunk the stereotype that fake news tends to be shared more by uneducated people or those with right-leaning politics, as compared to other groups.

And "The two most active political Facebook groups are Occupy Democrats and Stand Up America," both very left wing.

Maybe it's time to revisit the concept of "revolutionary truth."

Update: I have to wonder, though, how there can be any such thing as fake news when there is no such thing as truth - and therefore no such thing as falsehood.

Update: At least the University of Chicago refuses to cave in. It already has informed current and prospective students that,
