As the saying goes, "You may not be interested in the Gleichschaltung, but the Gleichschaltung is interested in you."
What is the Gleichschaltung? Jonah Goldberg, explained,
Gleichschaltung is a German word (in case you couldn’t have guessed) borrowed from electrical engineering. It means “coordination.” The German National Socialists (Nazis) used the concept to get every institution to sing from the same hymnal. If a fraternity or business embraced Nazism, it could stay “independent.” If it rejected Nazism, it was crushed or bent to the state’s ideology. Meanwhile, every branch of government was charged with not merely doing its job but advancing the official state ideology.Jonah wrote that nine years ago. Is "contemporary liberalism" an "evil ideology?" Well, no, liberalism is not evil and has many admirable qualities that overlap quite a bit with classical conservatism. But liberals are practically nowhere to be found nine years after Jonah's article.
Now, contemporary liberalism is not an evil ideology. Its intentions aren’t evil or even fruitfully comparable to Hitlerism. But there is a liberal Gleichschaltung all the same. Every institution must be on the same page. Every agency must advance the liberal agenda.
Instead, we have self-described socialists and wings of the Democrat party that are even further Left than they. And yes, socialism, including so-called "democratic" socialism, is an evil ideology.
This is the Socialist-Leftist template campaigning to gain and consolidate their power in the 2020 election. And the preparatory "coordination" is going on now. Wired reports:
Meet Antifa's Secret Weapon Against Far-Right Extremists
Megan Squire is an intelligence operative of sorts, passing along information to those who might put it to real-world use, like Antifa—who can weaponize it.
[Megan] Squire, a 45-year-old professor of computer science at Elon University, lives in a large white house at the end of a suburban street. Inside are, usually, some combination of husband, daughter, two step-children, rescue dog, and cat. In her downtime she runs marathons and tracks far-right extremists. Whack-a-Mole, her creation, is a set of programs that monitors some 400,000 accounts of white nationalists on Facebook and other websites and feeds that information into a centralized database. She insists she is scrupulous to not break the law or violate Facebook’s terms of service. Nor does she conceal her identity, in person or online: “We shouldn’t have to mask up to say Nazis are bad. And I want them to see I don’t fit their stereotypes—I’m not a millennial or a ‘snowflake.’ I’m a peaceful white mom who definitely doesn’t like what they’re saying.”
Though Squire may be peaceful herself, among her strongest allies are “antifa” activists, the far-left antifascists. She doesn’t consider herself to be antifa and pushes digital activism instead of the group’s black-bloc tactics, in which bandanna-masked activists physically attack white supremacists. But she is sympathetic to antifa’s goal of silencing racist extremists and is unwilling to condemn their use of violence, describing it as the last resort of a “diversity of tactics.” She’s an intelligence operative of sorts in the battle against far-right extremism, passing along information to those who might put it to real-world use. Who might weaponize it."Weaponize" means Antifa will attack their enemies violently, which the article points out they are already doing. (Interestingly, the article says of Squire, "In 2016, she cast a vote for the Green Party’s Jill Stein," which, according to Hillary Clinton, makes Squire a Russian puppet.)
This is key: Violence is always on the table for the Left. Military theoretician Carl von Clausewitz said that war is a continuation of politics by other means. For socialists, violence is a continuation of politics - but not by "other means," for the Left conceptualizes politics in warring terms: "class struggle," "rising up," "workers' revolution," and such. Politics and violence therefore are not separate activities. Politics is simply a continuum that encompasses both non-violence and violence. It is not a "last resort," as Squire thinks. It is simply one resort out of many. And this professor is identifying a target list. She is an active worker in the developing Gleichschaltung of the American Left.
She may be enlightened by reading what The Washington Post published this month: "Yes, antifa is the moral equivalent of neo-Nazis."
And let’s be clear: Totalitarian is precisely what they are. Mark Bray, a Dartmouth lecturer who has defended antifa’s violent tactics, recently explained in The Post, “Its adherents are predominantly communists, socialists and anarchists” who believe that physical violence “is both ethically justifiable and strategically effective.” In other words, they are no different from neo-Nazis.Actually, Antifa is no different from the real Nazis, whose Antifa-equivalent were the Sturmabteilung, SA, called Brownshirts. In the early stages of the Nazi movement the Brownshirts were simply paid street thugs. Later Hitler put them under military-like discipline and they carried out planned, focused violence against Jews, communists, trade unionists and others.
Antifa is adopting similar discipline. As The New Republic pointed out, Antifa is arming itself.
Read again these historians' explanations of Gleichschaltung in National Socialist Germany:
We have left Koonz's part behind. It is no longer being done stealthily. We are well into the process described by Stroud, with Antifa being a key player.
"You may not be interested in the Gleichschaltung, but the Gleichschaltung is interested in you." And it will get more and more interested in you with each passing day until next November.
Update: "Eliminationism" is not simply a side-effect of the Leftist Gleichschaltung. It is positively central.
The anti-male and anti-White rhetoric of the new left is extreme. The racial attacks on whites in particular approaches exterminationist propaganda seen only in, e.g., the Hutu against the Tutsi in 1990’s Rwanda. For anyone who doubts this, consider the following few examples, which are far from complete:That section begins about a fourth of the way down the page, so read the whole thing.
