Time travellers: please don’t kill Hitler
I have to think it is a spoof, a satire, perhaps. But it does not really read like it. Dean Burnett at The Guardian says that if time travel really became possible, going back to kill Hitler (presumably before he started WW2) would be a really bad idea.
Because didn't worldwide war and unfathomable death and suffering turn out well after all?
And let’s not overlook the consequences of the war that led to important changes in terms of equality and the like in society as a whole. This isn’t to say these things wouldn’t happen anyway, but it’s likely they happened a lot faster due to Hitler’s presence. It’s impossible to say how many may have suffered and died over the years, if people hadn’t banded together to fight Hitler. Is this something you’d risk changing?Um, yes, especially since there is no reason to believe that this positive changes would not or could not have happened without WW2.
